Model Files: An Introduction
Introduction this is my new series that will help people get to me Sterling a little better as well as chronicling my modeling journey via blog post. I do not know if I will branch out to YouTube so this will be my platform for that.
So, for starters Iāve been trying to get into the fashion industry on and off for ten years and I have very much just like anyone else have wanted to quit. But something in me will not let me give up on myself literally. Also, Iāve been taking this venture seriously over the past two years and it isnāt cheap either; maybe this is just my story but whatever I want for myself, and career isnāt going to be an overnight success, but it will last and have longevity which is the goal. I donāt know why this would be an easy quick journey but itās very much the opposite. Iām starting to get my feet wet with what I want with my āmodeling careerā. Iāve been working super hard saving my money and shelling out hundreds of dollars for shoots, makeup, beauty products, facials, and anything that can further amplify my appearance.
Why be a model? I always was attracted to the unconventional life of a model have set routines, schedules, tasks etc. has always exacerbated the mundanity of my life and just because I have tio work doesnāt mean I have to be miserable as well. Iāve always looked up to different beauty Icons whether its Tyra Banks, Beverley Peele, Naomi Campbell in my community and beauty icons of other peopleās community such as Emrata, Candice Swanepoel and Kiko Mizuhara.
Iāve always kind of always identified with models subconsciously because of my phenotype, body type and the way Iām visually set up. Iām not saying that what we do is easy because itās not, but it would be a worthwhile career choice for myself. Iāve always had this inkling in the back of my head that this is what I would do eventually as well.
I know most people grow up with horrible self-image self-perception but luckily for me that was never my case I always knew deep down if there was ever a place for me in this world it would be in the fashion industry creative industry at large. I love fashion, I love beauty, I love aesthetics, I love different art and expression mediums. I just feel like self-expression and aft is the essence of my being and translating the energy the photographer needs you to do to illicit certain feelings in. the magazines, articles, publications, photobooks, and movies is something Iāve always been inspired to have got myself. In this year 2024 my goal is to put myself out there more publicly becauseā¦. Itās just what Iām supposed to do. So instead of me not doing it and regretting it with the rest of my life Iām just going to do just that. Model.
These entries are going to be less formal and less polished, so you know that they are actually coming from my own noggin.
This is hard! Iām just starting out I know society considers models that start at 25 washed but there a first time for everything. I book my shoots myself; Iām learning my makeup. My portfolio is coming together nicely like Iāve been modeling consistently for the past 9 months 2023 was a good year for me. I started getting comfortable in front of the camera. I bought a tripod, selfie light, and have been printing out my modeling photos every couple week. My shoots are progressively getting better thank God. Iāve been studying fashion passively and actively for the last ten years and I feel like I know enough to properly navigate the industry which is a different type of monster to navigate. Iāll eventually do an article or incorporate some passages of Emily Ratajkowskiās book My Body because through reading that I feel more comfortable and confident navigating the industry and its nuances. This is just an introduction to this new weekly or biweekly series of mine on my website. This series will be delving into the literal modeling aspect as well as the figurative more sociopathy-based aspect as well. Iāll also be including pictures of shoots, behind the scenes, mood boards and any released projects. Thank you all for reading this far alright alright ciao, xX Sterling.
